The Annex in Toronto

Home of Toronto legends such as Timothy Eaton of Eaton’s Department Store and George Gooderham of Gooderham and Worts Distillery, the Annex was the connected and trendy yet upscale neighbourhood of Toronto as the elite steadily marched northward out of the core in the early 20th century.

While the middle-class bohemian area still holds up most of its grande mansions from that time, they’ve been steadily converted into apartments and student rentals due to its neighbouring of the University of Toronto Campus. The Annex is an eclectic mix of students, faculty, artists, business people, and families flitting from specialty coffee shops to unique retailers to independently run restaurants and art galleries.
